Mechanic Needed
Ok, is this the kind of stuff we can post in this sub-forum??
Anyway, I'm having car trouble. When I press the accelerator, it makes a whistling sound, sounds like it's coming from the wheels. But when I press on the brake, the sound goes away. At first I thought it was my brakes, but wouldn't it make noise when I DID press the brake? My situation is just the opposite. And the whistling sound, it's not a screeching sound like when the brakes are bad. It whistles, I don't know how to describe it exactly, never heard it before now. I can't afford my mechanic right now so I'm hoping someone will know what this is.

Which wheels, all of the wheels? What model of car do you drive? Has your car had any major past troubles?

Gosh, you know about cars too? :P
Ok....it's a '91 Mazda. No major troubles before. I was told in December that my brakes may need fixing soon, but I don't know if it's the brakes or not. And I don't know which wheels, I'm INside the car when I hear this. (Why do people always ask which wheel?? Is it abnormal to not know which wheel?) But if I had to guess, I'd say the back. Driver's side, passenger's side, I've no clue.

I don't really have to much of a knowledge of cars but I can give you my best educated guess. :P It may be something to do with the breaks.. they may be worn out or something... have you ever checked your break fluid? Have you experienced lessened break performance?

So you want me to get dirty? Hmmmmmm. I could try that I suppose. I'd have to push hard though wouldn't I?

My brother owns his own bussiness fixing cars -- Something like that your mechanic, any mechanic, shouldn't charge you to diagnose it. Only diagnosis charges would be if they have to put it on a computer.

Oops sorry Zets, didn't see your post. The brake fluid...my warning light thing isn't lit up so I'm assuming the level is fine. I'll check it anyway, good idea. And no the brakes seem to work just fine.
My mechanic is naughty. I've asked him many times to just LOOK at the car and let me know what the problem is, and not to fix it until I know what it's going to cost. But he fixes it anyway. And if I don't have the money, he sends the bill to my father lol. My father is his insurance agent, so they've gotten to be close friends. He says he won't have me coming in, finding a problem, and allowing me to drive away if it's unsafe, so he fixes it anyway. I just don't want my father paying the bill is all.
The ex-hubby was a mechanic, I've been thinking of asking him to have a looksee, but he hates when people ask him to work on their cars. He owes me, I can't afford to get it fixed at the garage, thanks to the lack of CS.

umm could be a cv joint it's not the brakes if it was you would here a grinding sound when you push on the breaks, it could be a joint that need oil or the cv joint could be going, does it change or stop if you turn the wheel?
