Default I Want to be a Hippie

To some it's outdated, with the 80s metal scene and whatever. But this is serious.

Call me too label-happy, but labels are loaded with meaning and have an effect on my psyche.

If I call myself a hippie, I give myself permission to be mellow and easygoing, seeing as that's how hippies normally are. It's empowering. It calms me and removes my anxiety and anger. It makes me less defensive towards judgmental people and bossy yuppies that surround me.

I want to portray myself like this. I want it to be my life. I want it to pan out in terms of my job choices even, like working at a non-profit or something typical.

The other day someone said to me "you don't see very many hippies around anymore." It made me feel hurt because I wanted him to see me as one.

What do you think?

I think its great, I like the way you have an image in your mind of how you would like to be and by labelling yourself it helps you to start being more like that image.

It sounds to me like, you know how we react to things based on our own experiences/prejudices or filters, it sounds like a good way of changing your own filter, by seeing things through the eyes of your idea of a hippie you are able to change how you would normally react.

Good way of reprogramming yourself and changing your outlook on things which is very hard to do!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks for your input. I've switched labels from hippie to loner. I'm reading a book about loners that inspired me a lot. I feel like it's really "me."

Loners are often passive and quiet, so that puts me at ease. It makes me feel like it's okay to not be firm or assertive, much less aggressive and feisty.

So loner is my new religion.

that was a quick switch, lol. Why do you need labels to define you though? How does it help you? Just curious.

She's not letting it define her, by imagining she is that label it will help her to react like a hippie / loner to a situation i.e. Take on the traits of the label as she said 'passive' to her be less feisty and aggressive.... if I have that right, I think it's a useful mental tool

Yes you have it right. Labels are loaded with concepts that are psychological and emotional. When I think loner, I think refined, cultured, quiet, passive, calm, intelligent, etc. If I use the label, I embody that.

AnimeFan, do you think work from home is a viable option? If so, do you know how I can go about getting a work from home job asap?

I got no idea, I knew someone that worked for an online travel agent selling holidays from home. Think there are jobs out there. Is this part of the loner idea

Yes it is. Because I hear bullying voices, I don't much like people. I also am way more productive, engaged, and at peace when alone. I love being alone. People make me uncomfortable.

What do you think of that?

I think it depends on you. More time alone would be be bad for some people. If you feel you function better that way then I think what your doing is pro-active and a good thing. Your making changes to improve things for you and if it doesn't work out you can always try something else.

Playing devils advocate and echoing what black sheep said you want to be careful that you don't pick an idea i.e. Loner and go 100% with it and end up defining yourself by the label, just take the traits you like, maybe mix ideas / traits for different things i.e. Loner and hippie depending on diff situations???

Let me know if you find much for work at home! You got much planned for the weekend
