workout/weightloss buddy wanted! :)
hello everyone!
i've been overweight my entire life, and i'm ready for that to change. i'm sick of feeling like the fat girl everywhere i go, and basing all my life's problems on my weight.
thing is, i have no idea where to start. when i was maybe 12? i went swimming a lot with my mom and i noticed a difference in how my clothes fit after about a month. sometimes in high school, i'd have these insane dance parties in my room and as silly as they felt, i noticed i lost a few pounds from it all. but whenever i notice that i'm losing weight, i guess i get freaked out and just stop everything. i go straight for the nutella and i get discouraged again.
anyways. what i'd really like is a workout buddy or weight-loss buddy of sorts. i have trouble motivating myself and i feel like if i have some people on here that i can talk too and can report back too, i'll be more willing to go on with it. anyone down??

i've got an idea....why don't you start like a "workout blog" thread? so that everyone can talk about their motivations, ups and downs, struggles, key tips, what works for us and what doesn't...etc for their weight loss goals and routine. I reckon it would be a good idea and might be useful for some of us :)

Can I join too? :)
I lost a TON of weight through exercise, and I liked it so much that I work out pretty much 6 days a week (when my knee allows it, that is) I still love group motivation to keep me and you accountable!!
Best of wishes!
SB.

Count me in too :) I'm so depressed about my weight, I can't leave it any longer.

hm. i went for a walk today, and i don't even know, i just couldn't do it. like i walked to the park near my house, walked to these steps and sat there for half an hour just thinking about everything. like i tried to talk myself into power walking around (since i can't quite run just yet) but no use. i'm frustrated at myself now >:(

Don't be too frustrated with yourself, you just have to keep trying. Did you have a music player with you for your walk? I'd find it very hard to do a workout like that if it's just me alone with my thoughts.
Maybe walking isn't the right workout for you? Have you tried other possibly more enjoyable workouts? Most libraries have a pretty good selection of exercise DVDs. And if there is a community gym in your area there may be some affordable fitness classes available. I tried a Zumba class for the first time last week, and kind of felt like a bit of an idiot because I didn't know the moves, but everyone was nice and I just kept moving and still got my heart rate up.

im no expert on weightloss, im one of the lucky few who dont need to worry about it as my job is a workout in its self.
My GF on the other hand does, and she is very motivated. See does these workout DVDs by Davina McCall and swears by them... they are VERY intense workouts and she often has muscle pains afterwards, but she is looking very toned now and has lost a lot of weight. She has also started a new diet where you eat what you would normally (healthy food though) for 5 days, then have 2 days where you only eat 500 calories a day... then repeat.
Best of luck to you all

Cinderella, I know exactly how you are feeling. I have just started running in the morning for the first time in years and I absolutely hate it (which is why I hadn't done it in a long time). But I tip here is that you set yourself little goals while you are doing your walking...you don't have to go flat out the whole time. Say, pick a post or tree that may be 20 metres or so away from you and say "I'm going to walk fast up until that tree" and then give yourself a rest by walking slower again to catch your breath. I find that listening to my ipod whilst running and walking really helps too.
Try not to beat yourself up too much, you'll get there. Have you considered any of the following: weights (just 2-3kg dumbells), squats, situps, exercise bike? Those are also good things to help with your initial fitness
