Hey Blue, I know how you feel. I have been trying to deal with depression for years and religion was one of my "solutions". The problem was that I never felt anything. I hated going to church because I would see everyone else clapping, praising, and getting the "spirit" and yet I never did. I always thought I was the Antichrist or something, like I had 666 tattooed on my forehead somewhere.
To make matters worse, whenever I told people (who were religious) that I felt empty even when trying to find God they told me the usual stuff like, "Was my heart in it?" "Did I really try to make a personal connection God?". That just made me feel even more pissed. I wish I can find the words to make everything better (I honestly do), but I hope you can take some solace in knowing that you are not the only person struggling with this issue.

I have the same feeling too BG, that no matter what I do to better my faith, I never seem to get closer.

well if there is no god ,then there is something else that seems equally powerful..and I've seen it everywhere..and I've felt here.I've always thought GOD is only one "o" away from GOOD.There is goodness out there..and here at TTL. In us and you, blue girl.I believe in that..

Hi Blue,
Don't feel so bad, its not your fault. I would like there to be an Agnostic section as well, I hope they can put it up because Athiesm is very diff in my opinion, and as its defined it means someone who believes or knows that there is no deity/God at all. Agnostic means you are not sure, you will wait until science can prove or something similar.
Right now for me, I believe in the basic tenants of Christianity, but I also believe that other religions have good tenents as well (parts of Hinduism, a lot of Buddhism). Tenants that encourage unselfishness, and critical thinking. And church has been a problem for me because I noticed my mind travelling in circles. Its just one big loop, over and over again, and i feel worse when I come out of there. And I realized its because I FEARED something bad happening to me if I didn't go to church every week. But its the fear that binds me, and i need to get past that. I need to let go of my parents hold on me. I am different, I am not a mini clone of them.

Please dont take this to be a disparigment of anything, but would it really be so bad, so painful to explore the possibility of life without religion? Woudl agnosticism, or even atheism be so bad to consider? And sometimes people find things when they walk away, a journey, a circular path. A little perspective is a good thing. YOu cant see the shape of the mountain till youi come down from the mountain.
Christianity, the church, religion they aren't going anywhere. They'll be there if you change your mind.

i have considered. i didn't grow up in a religious family. i started caring about God on my own when i was 21. mom was pretty open to letting me do my thing, my dad was against it.

BG, I don't know if this'll help or not, but I was watching an old tv show that I watched as a kid. One of the lines really stuck out to me:
"It's faith. You're not supposed to understand it. You just have it".

I cant speak for anyone, but perhaps BG feels the same way I do
If you have become a Christian, you may be more depressed trying that. I would anyways.
