If it looks good, then I'll read it. I don't read books either Endless Winging. I gobble them up!

Lots of reasons. I read coz i love to learn & need to understand .... & coz it's comforting... coz it's something i can do on my own without having to and w/o needing to interact with others. I can nose-dive into a book so i don't have to watch people watching me yet again with that 'she's-a-freak look.' Coz i can save my face by looking like im busy n oh-so-much into
reading i just can't stop! ......... & this is not even remotely connected to a life-long inability to connect with people, zero social skills, living in terror that everyone around will discover there's something wrong with me, or with being an ugly empty shell ..... it has nothing to do with all of that! I happen to love books, don't mind being alone & can survive in mute mode forever .

If the cover is interesting, first of all. I don't usually even pick up a book unless the cover catches my eye. Length is a big one, too. I don't tend to read really long books. It's just not my style. Then it has to do with what the book is about. I will read just about any genre, as long as it interests me. I like history things the most, though.

This thread has reminded me that I need to pick up a book sometime soon, haven't read one in about 2 months.

I just have a flick through and see if it interests me, of course despite "don't judge a book by its cover", most of the books I have read have eye catching covers.

I hate murder mysteries..unless they are so well written as to be classy..like Shutter Island e.g. I don't read enough to be able to say what I love..but if it has good notable prose and no canned romantic scenarios..ala her full rounded breasts heaved in the dying light ..blah blah fucking blah../male chauvinist jargon bs I will consider it.

I don't read, really. I hate reading too. Some things are fun to read, but I like them well paragraphed and easy on the eyes :P

I find books really boring. They don't really have the effect on me that they seem to have on other people. I pefer music to tell stories :)

If there's a movie I really like that's based off of a book, then I may read it. I don't read much anymore, but if I do, I almost always read nonfiction books about topics that interest me such as crimes, abuse, drugs, etc.

And to answer the other question, if the terror/thriller book is non-fiction, I love that type of book. If it's fiction, I'll usually find it boring.

I want to be somewhere else. When I'm feeling overwhelmed I can open up a book and my troubles are gone for the time being.

For me i read when the mood takes me, most books i read are murder mysteries although i will read the odd romantic book.
It might seem strange but sometimes i read because i have a headache and as im concentrating on a book the headache sometimes dulls, other times i cant even concentrate on as book, with or without a headache it depends.
