My Mood:
Default Depression/anxiety help books: please add more

I thought I would start this thread so that members could list what books have helped them cope/learn new strategies and/or understand how thhoughts work..

Personally I have found the following helpful:

Meditation

"When things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times" by Pema Chodron
about improving one's life, conquering fears + troublesome thoughts... worderfully written.

Anxiety

"From Panic to Power : proven techniques to calm your anxieties, conquer your fears and put you in control of your life" by Lucinda Basset
(somewhere in this forum, I posted abstracts of the first 5 chapters of this book)

"When Panic Attacks: the new, drug-free anxiety therapy that can change your life" by. Dr. David Burns, M.D.
an excellent book with mood logs + methods for being aware of and changing our self-destructive thoughts...

Depression:

"Feeling Good: the new mood therapy" also by Dr. David Burns, M.D.

I posted this in another thread;

Feeling Good Handbook by David Burns

The following is the description from amazon;

Quote:
This therapy of Dr Burns is based on the premise that people create their own moods, and thus can learn to change the way they look and feel. He shows how to apply techniques and provides strategies for overcoming fears, phobias and panic attacks. He deals with hypochondria and various forms of social anxiety; improving intimate interpersonal communication; overcoming procrastination; coping with performance anxiety in public speaking, test-taking, and other activities.
I know it sounds crazy, but just in reading teh first 2 chapters I felt a lot better. The way he outlines exactly what your thoughts mean and do is really helpful. It helped me to change the way I think and therefore feel better about myself and my life. I've recommended this book to a few friends and would recommend it to anyone...
