Default Worried about the future

just graduated from college and I feel like it took three years of my life. I went to art college bright eyed, thinking they would teach me everything i needed to know, only to be bombarded with essays on art history and general ed courses that I will never use in my life. I know you’re saying ‘you should have dropped out’, but the social pressure and family pressure to get a degree was enormous. Now I’ve been thrown out into the world and I’m scared out of my mind. I’m also having this fear about the future and keep asking myself ‘where will i be when i’m 35? 45? 55?’ everyone i went to school with is doing pretty well. They chose the right path and made the right decisions and are reaping the rewards. I’m happy for them and jealous at the same time. I really feel like I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and that I’m on a bad trajectory. I get anxious easily and tend to get caught in my thoughts, to the point where I just lay in bed and worry. It's like I'm caught in a negativity tornado and just get spun around. I keep wishing I could go back in time and change things. I have no motivation to leave my house and scared to death about tomorrow. Any advice on what to do? any books, audiobooks, youtube channels,or fortune cookies that can help?

You remind me so much of me. I went to school bent on becoming a writer and instead was reading Shakespeare.

Now I'm a teacher. I'm not even sure if I want to work full time. I'm perfectly satisfied. It took a very, very long time to get to this point, but I made it. I zigzagged my way up. I don't care what anyone thinks of my path. Strangers are generally like "oh okay" even if you say you work at Food Lion.

You'll be a different person at 30, 40, or 50 than you are now.

One thing I would say though: if I were you, I would definitely not go back to school yet. You'll just get in the same situation. You need work experience.

you're right, I can only learn for so long and there's a difference between knowledge and skill, and I can't get skill in school.

What scares me about being 30, 40 and 50 is where I'm at in life now. If my 15 year old self saw me now he would hate himself. If I went into the future and saw my 30 year old self or 40 year old self, would I be proud or disappointed.

I think I'm scared of the responsibility and the idea that my life is in my hands and that I control where I end up in life. I'm not confident in my ability to shape my life, I think that's my biggest fear.

don't worry. your greatest asset is time. You can learn a lot of things outside school that are more valuable, especially from the internet (to paraphrase Gary Vaynerchuk). College and university is moving online anyways. You have time to find out what you really want to do and achieve it

I've identified as a student for so long and been used to the structure of going to class and coming home. Now that it's over I'm just anxious about whether I will be alright. Some days I feel confident, other days I get hit with a wave of anxiety that I can't escape.
