Default Coping with embarrassing memories?

I've had severe social anxiety since I was in middle school. As a result, I've never had much of a social life.

I'm in my mid-20s now and I only recently started drinking alcohol and going to parties. I usually have a good time, but I over-analyze everything the next day and end up feeling really stupid and miserable. I haven't actually done anything ridiculous or crazy at a party yet. I just feel really embarrassed about things that most people take for granted such as making conversation or dancing. I'm filled with regret and I wish I could erase my memory of everything the next day. I feel like a pathetic loser and assume everyone is secretly judging me, so I completely avoid contact with them for weeks or even months afterward.

Advice?

you're memories cant define the man you are today. You're always changing and evolving and you can either be who you were.

Or you can be who you "want" to be.

Black Sheep, you don't deserve to do this to yourself, its not your fault.

Seconded Reel Life.

Black Sheep, I catch myself doing the same many times. I'm learning to let it go and to stop tormenting myself over that. And yes, I'm my own harshest critic.

As for deleting the post, please don't. Helps to get these feelings aired and hopefully, to help you gain some insight into how to handle these problems. You're not alone here. You can speak without being judged and there could very well be someone here who can give you advice that can help.

Please don't give up on yourself and please try not to be so hard on yourself. Yes, I know it's difficult but it is doable and worth the effort.
