Default Can't sleep due to Anxiety/Stress!

Once again having another sleepless night due to stress, can't shut my mind up. Probably never get sleep tonight. Just hate this. Go to work tired all day come home and can't sleep. Just Sucks.

My psychiatrist offered me Seroquil to help me sleep. I didn't get a prescription at that time. I think I should of now. No worst feeling in the world then working tired.

Hate the way, this makes me feel. Took an Over the counter Sleep Aid for now. Hope this helps, would really like some sleep. I was suppose to get some wine. 1 glass usually put me to sleep. Just a miserable feeling.

:/ sorry. I didnt sleep at all last night then slept all damn day today.

I've tried sleeping pills recently but they make it so hard to get up in the morning that I've basically given those up

I had this too, last night I finally got good sleep again. My mom went here and that helped.

i would reccomend going back to your doctor and getting the prescription. Things feel a lot worst when your functioning on little sleep.

Hey there hun, hope the OTC sleeping aid helped you a little bit.

Has your psych come up with ways to deal with the anxiety that you have? I had many sleepless nights over the Summer over stress. But my doctor wouldn't give me sleeping pills. He's the type that thinks you should try and get to the root of the problem first before going on the sleeping tabs as they are very addictive and such.

Have you tried writing down everything that is bothering you before bed? I was suggested this a few months ago and it really helped. I found that at night time and I was shattered and I couldn't sleep writing down what was bothering me allowed me to push it aside until the morning.

Sorry I have no great advice, but just wanted to know that I was there and know how it feels.

Louise

Kutaar, then you know what I'm going through.
Heartchic, I'm thinking of those anxiety pills.
Louisem1990, might try writing in a journal could help.

Worked 12 hours today, I manage to get 3 hours sleep so far. Now I have another appointment to go to. When I come home I hope I can get more sleep before going back to work. Don't feel I can function on 3 hours of sleep, today but got to get to this appointment also. Life is too busy.

Thanks for the replies

Hey TooMuch,

First sorry to hear you're going through this. I just dealt with something similar - in fact scarily similar there must be something magical about 3 hours when you're going through this type of thing.

I can offer you this:

First, you need restful/restorative sleep and it only takes a few days without before you'll start ending up with bad thoughts and possibly on a slide you dont want to be on. So please take your lack of sleep seriously - not just because you want to sleep but because it can transition very quickly into "real bad".

I tried Ambien and it gave me a very full nights sleep, and I was ok the net day. However I didn't like how it knocked me out and scared me because I have another medical condition that it made worse so for me I will only use in an emergency but very effective.

I also started a vitamin regimen from the Mayo Clinic that seems to help:
- Zinc
- B Complex
- Citracal

My ultimate solution while I was going through a bad time was Melatonin right before bed, 2 X 3mg helped me sleep very well with no after effects (of course check with your dr.)

Also just a thought my understanding is that some psych meds work on a "delay" - if by any chance you're on a new med that might not be agreeing with you. I had a terrible adverse reaction to Lexaprowhere I would take it before bed, sleepfor 3 hours, them pop up wide awake completely out of my mind over the edge bad thoughts.

Hope this helps, best of luck and hope you feel better soon.
