Default Can I Be Silent?

I want to be silent except with friends, family, and people at work.

Can I keep my lips zipped around strangers?

Isn't it better the other way round. Strangers don'tr matter - you'll never see them again. It's friends,m family and people at work that can cause you problems

My family, friends, and people at work treat me fine for the most part, especially my friends, otherwise they're not really friends.

I don't like most people because of my past and what my mind tells me about their nature. I want to stop talking to them (besides the bare minimum like ordering food at a restaurant or going to a bank). Is that realistic?

Sounds like a good idea. One that I would love to be able to follow but I've never managed to remember to say nothing

Better question would be, is it something you would be comfortable doing? Different people have different social needs. Some need to speak incessantly while others, like me, barely say a few sentences a day. It's important to fulfill your needs otherwise issues will arise but only you can know how much is enough for yourself.

Yes, it's something I would be very comfortable doing. It's talking to the public that I don't feel comfortable doing because I fear being judged, harassed, and even controlled for being different, like with my sister who is the polar opposite of me and is critical of me. For example, I'm atheist, and if people find out, it might turn into a theological debate and harassment to become a Christian, which is what happened when I told my sister.

Like you, I would rather "barely say a few sentences a day."

Do you think I will be able to accomplish this?

Is it a common issue in your life? I understand that the entirety of the US is religious, even if some parts may pale in comparison to the bible belt but I doubt a complete stranger would argue over the existance of god with you. A relative, I can definitely see but I doubt the average person off the street would have enough investment in anything unless provoked and the same goes for other topics.

I see no harm in trying it temporarely. You can do it for a week and see if you prefer it that way but I can't really tell if you could accomplish it since I don't know you enough for that. Forums are quite impersonal, you don't really get to know people enough that way.

Thank you. That helped a lot.

I will try to be silent with the public for a week to see if it's realistic. I'm especially hoping it will give me a sense of control when it comes to the voices.
