Default Any suggestions... pleeeease

Medication (prozac) isn't working. Yes its only been 4 weeks and the doctor just says be patient (easy for him to say he isn't watching his life fall apart!!) but I need to feel like I'm doing something more than the medication since I'm convinced that isn't working. I've tried counselling and she made things worse by tearing all my happy memories of the past apart. I'm not allowed St John's Wort cus it interferes with the medication...

there must be something :(

i've wondered if a change of scene helped anyone, like maybe travelling abroad for a bit? or do you think that would make things worse...

thanks xx

Many SSRI meds take quite a while to take full effect. It is typical to take 4-8 weeks for someone to notice a change. I am on something new also, and I am only on week 3 or 4, and I also hate waiting.

You may, or may not, have heard this, but try exercising or some physical activity. The helps to release endorphins that can help elevate your mood. As for change of scene, it can help, but that can also backfire. If you don't mind being alone with your thoughts then a scene change can be helpful, but if you are not busy and your thoughts get to you, then it isn't such a great idea. It is kind of up to you. An escape can be beneficial. - Peace and health.

Well, I won't say this would solve your problem, but diet often helps quite a bit over the long term. Check out any book by Julia Ross (The Mood Cure, etc.). Add more Omega-3 fats to your diet (fish is the best source). Cut down on foods with vegetable oils (Omega-6 competes with Omega-3).

Ross says the OTC supplement 5-HTP can be as/more effective as Prozac. Look into L-Tryptophan and SAMe, too. But absolutely clear it with your doctor before starting one of these because they do interact with some prescription drugs.

fyre--vigorous exercise saved me. I was on Paxil in college and it was the worst decision of my life (to take that medication). When I made the decision never to touch a pill again, my real road to recovery started.

Exercise does more for the mind and the brain, IMO, then the body. It cleared my thoughts. You will get a lot of advice about taking medications like Prozac, Paxil, etc., but in my experience they were damaging.

Without sounding folklorish--try a 'healing foods' book or something along those lines in addition to exercise. I hope this helps you out!
